The Eutelsat Group was formed in 2023 through the combination of Eutelsat, a global pioneer in GEO satellite operations founded in 1977, and OneWeb, established in 2012, the first company to operate a LEO constellation worldwide. Satellites are a vital part of the connectivity ecosystem. Their wide coverage area guarantees reliable, high-capacity, high-speed communications to even the most remote communities.

Playing a key role in digital migration, satellites offer a clear advantage, especially when it comes to delivering linear content. The exclusive use of terrestrial broadband networks could leave a significant proportion of consumers permanently unable to access linear and non-linear services in areas with no terrestrial coverage.

Compared to the coverage and capabilities of terrestrial networks, satellites provide cost-effective and immediate access to customers across the coverage. They enable all citizens to be supplied with a similar service across regions instantaneously, and maximize the route to market as they deliver to all networks, be it Direct-to-Home or by distributing content to other networks, including cable, terrestrial and IP networks.

Satellites also help terrestrial network operators to meet growing bandwidth demands. They complement existing networks and offer secure backhaul services for rural communities. When connecting remote networks to the main internet backbone and cellular infrastructure, they are often the only technology able to provide communications with 99% reliability. They are the natural solution in rural areas and anywhere with varied topography and where the cost of deploying fibre is simply too high.
